Ovingham TodayOvingham lies on the north bank of the River Tyne, 15 miles upstream from the City of Newcastle. Ovingham is immediately north of Prudhoe. The modern parish covers an area of approximately three square kilometres on a terrace above the north bank of the river. The western boundary of Ovingham parish is the Whittle Dene burn. The southern boundary is the Tyne itself. The underlying geology of the parish is limestone. There are about 1200 residents in about 560 houses. We have a well-stocked Londis shop which incorporates a Post Office and two pubs - the White Swan and the Bridge End Inn. Our local council is Tynedale Council (based in Hexham) and Northumberland County Council (whose HQ is in Morpeth) is the second tier. In April 2009, the County Council will become a unitary authority and Tynedale Council will disappear. View Larger Map ![]() |
